Lessons from RSPT

Comments on Dennis Shanahan and Jennifer Hewett “Restart tax plan: Kevin Rudd's man Rod Eddington”, 3/06/2010, http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/news/restart-tax-plan-kevin-rudds-man-rod-eddington/comments-e6frg90f-1225874747997

There is a serious lesson that must be learnt from this RSPT drama, and that is the advices from either the Henry tax review panel or from Treasury or both were seriously flawed.

How such serious flaws can be avoided or prevented from occurring is a serious question to the national governance.

The second serious lesson from this is it appears that no effective constraints on politicians or the government and ministers on their behaviour, especially when serious national interests and taxpayers' money are involved.

All this means we need better and more independent institutions and more effective balances and checks for the government.
