Comments on The Australian online report by Stephen Lunn “Kevin Rudd commits to serve full term as PM”, 6/05/2010, http://www.theaustralian.com.au/politics/kevin-rudd-commits-to-serve-full-term-as-pm/story-e6frgczf-1225863192714
Rudd is appearing to be reassuring some people by stating that.
The problem is that whether his ALP leadership will last long enough to the next election, given that he may have become a liability rather than an asset to the ALP.
Of course, the ALP also has other problems that may counter the above argument. They include even the best ALP parliamentary performer and the perceived successor to Rudd, Ms Gillard is also having some problems of her own with the BER program and those problems are growing.
For the ALP, the real question now is whether it has a credible alternative leader to Rudd to lead it into the next election to have a better chance of winning the next election.
That is interesting and will remain to be seen.
